Happy New Year
The start of a new year is often a time to reflect on the days that have passed...and make plans for the days ahead.
A lot has happened during the last year. Here is a quick overview to bring you up-to-date.
Building the foundation
Over the last year, the focus has been on building the foundation of an 'International Humanitarian Organisation' to represent the concept of a new GLOBAL Model...starting with a global community website.
This is obviously a BIG project - but also a very important one!
Why?
A Nation State system based on 'economic competition and national self interest' has a built-in expiry date.
The reason why this is true, is simply because this kind of system creates countless political, economic, humanitarian and social problems throughout the world. These problems escalate as the global population increases. In a competitive 'consumer based economy', resources start to become more scarce as a result of the population increase. In order to protect their own national and economic interests, nation states begin to more aggressively try to acquire and control these diminishing resources. This aggressive demand for diminishing resources inevitably leads to many foolish decisions which also have a severe impact on the planet and its natural habitat. As a result, the global problems will continue to escalate until they spiral out-of-control; climate change being one key concern.
In a competitive system, the political response to such problems is often the same. Each nation blames the others. No one wants to accept responsibility. And no one wants to be held economically accountable. This system defends its own foolish behaviour!
To fix the world's problems and address this immature behaviour, we NEED a system which brings out the best in humanity - not our worst. We need to lift ourselves up to a whole new level.
We can therefore either;
1. Make the intelligent decision to 'work together as a people' to solve the global problems (through a new global model). This will also improve our behaviour where we make more intelligent decisions that benefit all countries, people and the planet as a whole.
or
2. Continue to exploit the world's limited resources, which will inevitably lead to more political and economic aggression between nation states, resulting in the ever-increasing environmental destruction to the planet and its life forms...which will ultimately include humanity itself.
One way or another - these problems will be solved!
Our challenge is therefore to encourage humanity to start behaving more intelligently by making the decision to 'work together as a people'. While this is just common sense to some of us, the majority of people throughout the world have never considered the idea as it exists beyond a 'Nation State' model.
As a starting point, this work has involved the following.
- A professional website to communicate the core problem and a common sense solution. Developing a website is always an 'evolving process'. Often it's not possible to find the right images or videos to explain certain ideas. You either have to settle for what you can find, or create the graphics and videos yourself. As an example, I've just updated the 'International Model' page with some new graphics and content. This should now make understanding a GLOBAL Model somewhat easier. This page still needs some explanatory videos. It also now links to the 'Call to Action' site - #LetsGoGLOBAL.
- A Newsletter Update template was also designed to provide updates to the community.
- New features have been added to the site to improve general functionality.
Overall, it's been a very busy year.
The Next Steps...
This year - 2019 - will continue to build on that foundation. There will be more features and some new content.
We definitely need some new features which will also make it easier for members to participate and share their knowledge, thoughts and experiences. This will be a key development focus this year. The following is one such example.
What is your life story? What lessons have you learnt?
We all have a life experience to share. We've all made mistakes - and hopefully - we've learnt some valuable lessons. If we shared these lessons, maybe they could be of value to others and future generations. One of the planned new features for this year, will be the ability to share your experiences and the lessons that you have learnt.
Newsletter - 'Quarterly' Updates
As my free time will be taken up developing some of the new features and content, the Newsletter Emails will be changed to 'quarterly' updates. The goal is for members to directly provide the community with individual posts and updates, while the Newsletter will only be used for general community updates.
Deciding our Future
If you listen to Douglas Rushkoff in the featured video, he will share a story which highlights a key problem today.
Today - many people realise that we are at a crossroads in our history. We have an important decision to make - "Are we going to rise to the challenge and 'work together as a people' to solve our problems, or build walls, try to protect our own interests, and simply wait until the system totally falls apart?"
This moment in history will define our destiny as a people.
